Grey’s Anatomy season 16 spoilers: What’s next for Levi, Nico?
With that spelled out, it’s also clear that there is all sorts of fertile ground here to explore for these characters. Levi is a character who we haven’t often seen on television before — a nerdy guy who never really took the time to think over his sexuality. It was never a big part of his story until recently. He hasn’t had confidence even outside of his sexuality, and now, he is working to come to terms with that while at the same time working to form a deeper bond with his new partner. In terms of their relationship journeys, the two don’t have that much in common at the moment; yet, Levi can offer Nico something that he may not have otherwise.

In speaking a little bit further on this subject via Entertainment Tonight, here is some of what Jake Borelli had to say:
The last third of last season, it brought about some rocky moments for Levi and Nico. I think Nico represents this doctor who has a few more years on Levi, in terms of experience, both surgically and in terms of life experience. But, I think we’ve also realized that Levi has loads of emotional intelligence and courage in that department. This last fight that we saw with Nico, as he was spiraling after killing his first patient, we saw that Levi also had things to teach Nico. That teaching moment is what brought them together in the end and it culminated in Levi having the courage to finally come out to his mother, so we ended in a very beautiful way. There are still some differences between the two in terms of Levi growing in experience and Nico being more courageous emotionally and learning how to navigate his inner life a little bit better.
Levi and Nico have come to understand each other further, but know already that there are still some other bumps in the road. We’ll see some of that explored through the coming weeks and months as they understand how to balance their personal and professional relationship — and, of course, imperfections to go along with it.
