Chicago Med season 5 premiere sneak peek: How is Will Halstead?

Chicago Med season 5

Entering Chicago Med season 5 on NBC Wednesday night, it’s pretty clear that Will Halstead is not in the greatest physical state. He’s not anywhere near as bad as Natalie Manning, but he’s still struggling in his own way. Think about it — he just saw Natalie become the victim of a horrific attack, and because it was tied to his workings in the Ray operation, he may feel responsibility. It’s not just physical health; instead, it’s about mental health and trying your best to ensure that you practice a little self-care.

In the two sneak peeks below for the upcoming premiere, it’s clear that Will isn’t exactly practicing any sort of self-care. Instead, he’s spending all of his time preoccupied and worried about Natalie. From an emotional standpoint we absolutely get it; yet, from a physical standpoint he’s gotta know better than to avoid treatment when he’s going through some medical issues. As Connor tells him, he’s acting like a “typical doctor” — in other words, he’s not being altogether welcoming of treatment and is trying to refuse it in whatever way the he possibly can.

Through most of the premiere, we’ll see Will start to recover, while at the same time learning about Natalie’s fate and how she is faring. This is not going to be a story that is resolved easily; you can get more of a sense of that by visiting our interview here with executive producers Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov.

Beyond Natalie and Will’s storyline, remember that the premiere has the task of trying to write out both Colin Donnell and Norma Kuhling. Based on what happened at the end of last season, with Dr. Rhodes suspecting that Ava was responsible for his father’s death. The premiere has to find a way to offer some closure there.

Overall, let’s just hope that the Chicago Med premiere does its best to both establish an end to some stories, while also ushering in whatever it wants the next era of the show to be.
