Jim Parsons, Mayim Bialik reteam for American Miranda remake at Fox

Jim Parsons

Following their time on The Big Bang TheoryJim Parsons and Mayim Bialik are sticking around in the comedy business moving forward!

According to a new report coming in now via Deadline, Parsons will be executive producing Carla, an adaptation-of-sorts of the hit British comedy Miranda that aired for a few years. Bialik will also serve as an executive producer alongside Parsons, writer Darlene Hunt, original series star Miranda Hart, and more. This comedy already has a series order over at Fox, meaning that it is being planned already as a full-fledged launch. The plan, at the moment, is for the show to launch in the fall of 2020.

Per the official synopsis, Mayim’s Carla is a “39-year-old woman who struggles every day against society and her mother to prove that you CANNOT have everything you want — and still be happy. Which is why she spent the money her parents set aside for her wedding to open a Cat Café in Louisville, KY.”

In a new statement, Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn had the following to say about the deal:

“In pursuing a hand-crafted approach to our scripted development, Charlie and I knew Carla, written by Darlene Hunt, was a project with great potential that could become the centerpiece of our comedy slate – and Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik coming to Fox Entertainment is obviously an enormous part of that equation … Carla is an unapologetically big, broad multi-cam with a strong female point-of-view, pushing the format in a way that will be distinctive.”

Do we think that this could prove to be an enormous hit on Fox? It feels like the potential is there for it based on the talent itself. While Parsons is not set to star on the show, we have to imagine that there is a chance that he could appear down the road — he’ll have every opportunity to do so and that’s a chance to bring this series instant ratings.

For Fox, Carla could be a potential show to pair in the future with their established hit Last Man Standing, or to help launch a new comedy lineup. Either way, this is their chance to get more in the comedy space.
