NCIS video: The wonderful journey of Cote de Pablo back on set
After all, this video is all about everything that the cast and crew did to prepare for the return of Cote de Pablo as Ziva David! It’s incredible that this secret never came out leading into the season 16 finale airing, and there were a number of steps that production took to keep things under wraps. That included filming on a closed set, limiting the number of crew members, and even using a separate entrance for Cote so that no one would be aware of her presence beyond just essential personnel.

This clip does chronicle the arrival of Cote on set alongside the reaction of the crew seeing her again, but it also gives you a fun little tour of the NCIS offices by executive producer Steven D. Binder as he “looked” to see if Cote was around. It gives you a good sense of the vibe and personality around the set, plus also some assorted hijinks including a Ruth Bader Ginsburg action figure and also a snack break. There were also some snags before Cote even arrived to set, as apparently there was a traffic jam while she was on the way to the studio. It was after midnight when everything really got rolling for Cote, and then, we had to wait to see it air.
The best thing about this video, beyond just all of the great behind-the-scenes insight, is seeing the enthusiasm that a number of the cast and crew members have surrounding Cote’s big return. It feels clear that she’s loved by everyone who works on the show and that staging this surprise event invigorated the crew to new levels. Remember that this was filmed at the end of the season, and this was a time where a lot of people could’ve just been exhausted and eagerly awaited some sort of a break. Yet, they persevered and had some fun with creating this look behind-the-scenes. (Bonus points to co-executive producer David North, who alongside Binder is the MVP of this video.)
