This Is Us season 4 spoilers: Who is playing Rebecca’s father?

In the early going of This Is Us season 4, we are going to have a chance to meet Rebecca’s parents. We already knew that Elizabeth Perkins was going to be playing the role of her mother, and now, we’re rather happy to confirm the casting of her dad .

According to a new report coming in via Deadline, former The West Wing actor Tim Matheson is going to be recurring over the course of season 4 within this role. While we do have a small sense of what Rebecca’s childhood was like, there are certainly still a number of questions that need to be answered and gaps that need to be filled in. This is what bringing her parents in for a larger role this season will help do. We also think that one of the big benefits of bringing them on board now is the show more of the development of Jack and Rebecca as a young couple. In the season 4 premiere, Jack is going to have an opportunity to meet her parents, and there might be some uncertainty that they have on the other side of it. Jack is someone with his fair share of personal demons, and they are the sort of thing that could give Rebecca’s mom and dad a certain degree of pause.

In general, we get the feeling that season 4 is planning to have an expansion of family really like no other, and a continuation of what we just saw. In season 3, for example, as we had an opportunity to learn to Jack’s brother Nicky was actually still alive and out there. We also learn from the flash-forward at the end of it that he and Rebecca have struck some sort of relationship with him. That’s something that we’re hoping to get a few more answers on in due time. Meanwhile, we have also met Kate and Toby’s son for the first time, and we have questions aplenty as to how things are going to go for the two of them as young parents.

The premiere of This Is Us season four is only one week away. How exciting is that? We’ve been waiting forever to get the Pearsons back, and we couldn’t be more thrilled now that they finally are. Let the theorizing, speculation, and of course emotion begin.
