Outlander: Will Sam Heughan – Saturn Awards win bring about more?

Outlander season 4

Sometimes, you need a domino to fall in order to spark some momentum. When it comes to Outlander and its star Sam Heughan scoring a Saturn Awards win, you have to hope that it is a sign that some more great stuff is coming soon.

Sam’s victory during the online broadcast last night adds another win to the series’ metaphorical trophy castt — both the series and Caitriona Balfe have won at the Saturn Awards before. Considering that both Balfe and Outlander have received Golden Globes nods in the past, could it bring Sam closer to that direction? It’s a step in the right direction, but it’s not getting him all the way there yet.

When you think about the awards-show community, one of the most important things that you hope for in almost any given moment is a conversation. You want to make sure that your favorite performers are being treated seriously and voters recognize their worthiness. In getting this win last night, it’s another reminder that Sam’s performance is undeniable. It’s something that can be added to that conversation in some of the years to come. It’s also a reminder of the dimension, the effort, and the heart he puts into the role.

Of course, there is still a long ways to go until several other awards shows are going to get underway — the People’s Choice Awards has Outlander nominated in the Bingeworthy category, and that will be something we’ll watch out for. The good news is that Outlander will be considered for the 2020 Emmys, as the entirety of its fifth season falls within its eligibility window. As a matter of fact, you could call the arrangement almost perfect in some ways. It will be wrapping up at a time when the earliest of Emmy whispers begin, prior to the campaigns really heating up in the trade publications. It will be fresh of mind. If the story of Outlander season 5 delivers, then the next order of business will be making sure voters recognizing the greatness of what Sam is doing so that he has a chance to get that oh-so-desired nod.

Here’s to hoping now that the first domino has fallen, and that we see many more good things to come for Sam and the rest of the cast. There are no guarantees, but there are more reasons for positivity than ever before.

Do you think this Sam Heughan win sets the stage for more stuff in the future?
