Outlander star Sam Heughan accepts Saturn Awards victory (video)
If you want to see more of what Sam had to say about it, you’re in luck! The Saturn Awards live-streamed a broadcast last night where you can see a short message from him on the set of Outlander. You can see it around the 2 hour 47 minute mark, and in it Sam (while dressed as Jamie Fraser) expresses all of his thanks for winning this year. It’s a short speech, but it’s nice that both he and the Saturn Awards themselves put forward the effort to make sure that he was still represented during the awards show. The same goes for some other champions, including Sonequa Martin-Green from Star Trek: Discovery and then also Jeffrey Dean Morgan from The Walking Dead.
This is what the People’s Choice Awards should have done back a couple of years ago when Outlander won a number of trophies there — just give the show a chance to be represented! We also hope that this is the beginning of more awards going the show’s way. Sam has been routinely and unfortunately snubbed by the likes of the Emmys and the Golden Globes — Caitriona Balfe has been lucky to get a little more love from the Globes over the years, but even still has yet to take home an actual trophy. Maybe some of this could change for one of them moving into season 5, which is starting on Starz in the new year.
For now, let’s just have a dram (to use Sam’s own term) in celebration of the man behind Jamie Fraser getting some recognition. It’s a moment that he can carry with him for the rest of his career — we know that this recognition matters. You may not get into the business for the acclaim, but it has to be flattering to get it.
