Is Reef Break renewed for season 2 by Paramount Network, canceled?
Unfortunately, the bad news we have for you at the moment is this: There is no news on the future of the show. It’s also hard to gauge that there will be some good news coming for Poppy Montgomery and the rest of the cast. While Reef Break is the sort of show that feels like perfect summer television with its idyllic setting and fun caper-style storytelling, it also never had too much of a chance of getting off the ground. It’s hard when you are a scripted television series to be able to get things going in the right direction. It’s even harder when you are airing on a tough timeslot on a network that hasn’t had a lot of success producing summer hits.
All of this is charted out with the overall ratings for Reef Break this summer, which unfortunately ended up being far from good. How much so? Think in terms of a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and under 2 million live viewers a week. These aren’t the sort of numbers that tend to lead to a show coming back for another season, and with its lack of general promotion, we have a hard time imagining that ABC had a ton of faith in it from the jump.
Is there a chance that Reef Break could still find another life for itself elsewhere? We never want to say never in this game, especially when you think for a minute about how Montgomery’s previous show Unforgettable did find itself another home after years on CBS. However, that show did generate better ratings during its run than Reef Break did here. It’s unfortunately falling more into the same trap that we saw previously with Take Two, the most recent ABC summer show to see itself canceled after just one season on the air. It had slightly better ratings than Reef Break, and it was still not enough for it to see the light of day.
We’ll have more news on the future of Reef Break once we have it, so be sure to keep checking back!
