Outlander season 5: Why Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin aren’t at NYCC
So what’s going on here? We speculated at the time of the announcement that this was due to the actors’ commitments working as Roger and Brianna on set, and that seems to be confirmed judging from a new post on the series’ official Twitter (which CarterMatt has for you to see HERE). These two are going to be hard to work in order to ensure that everything goes according to plan back in Scotland. Because Outlander is still going to be in production at the time of NYCC, it’s a little harder to fly everyone across the Atlantic Ocean and keep things on-schedule. It was easier last year, which is when Rankin and Skelton were able to join Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe. This year, Sam and Caitriona will be joined by Duncan Lacroix, Maria Doyle Kennedy, and David Berry alongside executive producers Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis and then author Diana Gabaldon.
So while you may not be getting your much-needed dose of Richard and Sophie at the convention, it seems as though Outlander still wants to ensure that you get a chance to hear from the two of them. If you respond to the tweet embedded below, there’s a chance that they will be able to answer some questions at a later date! We imagine this being some sort of fun behind-the-scenes video that Starz will put out later this year, as they prepare for the launch on February 16.
We know that there is a huge story ahead for Roger and Brianna, as the two work to find and build a real life for themselves in America. They haven’t been able to be a couple for all that long where they are actually around each other — and they’re also parents! Add to this the threat of the Revolutionary War and that’s a lot to take on.
