The Blacklist season 7 spoilers: What will Katarina’s role in the story be?
Following the end of season 6, it seems as though Liz Keen’s biological mother is still out there! It feels fair to question whether or not that is really Katarina, but we have to assume that for now, it is. What happens between her and Raymond Reddington should prove interesting, especially given that Katarina is currently (seemingly) holding him hostage. Why is she drawing his blood? That’s something that we discussed while analyzing the promo that was released this past weekend.

Beyond what’s going on with Reddington, there is another question worth wondering — what will the relationship with Katarina and Liz look like, provided that they have one? Katarina obviously wants some sort of answers from Reddington, whether they be about Liz or who Reddington truly is … if he is not actually Ilya Koslov.
Because of the distance that is there between Liz and Katarina, one thing that we may see Katarina exploit is the idea that Liz would almost certainly not recognize her if they were to meet. That is something that executive producer Jon Bokenkamp discussed in a new TVLine interview:
“[Liz] thinks Katarina is dead and hasn’t seen her mother since she was 4 or 5. If she were to meet Katarina, she may not know that it’s her mother, and there may be an opportunity for Katarina to come into Liz’s life in a way that is anything but motherly.”
The challenge for Katarina seems to be having these discussions/meetings with Liz before Reddington escapes and tells Liz about what’s going on. Liz will be out to find him, presumably with the help of the task force.
Beyond what’s going on within the Katarina – Liz dynamic, Bokenkamp does also hint that there are going to be answers to a number of different mysteries:
“More than any season before, we’re starting to fill in those blanks … Big pieces of the story snap into place in ways that we’ve really not been able to do until now.”
Does this mean that we’ll go back in The Blacklist season 7 and answer some of the longstanding mysteries from season 1, including Reddington blowing up the house and what Diane Fowler knew about his past?
