Power season 6 episode 3: 50 Cent promises theme song change

Power

When was the last time that we saw as much drama around a TV theme song as we’re seeing at the moment with Power season 6? Let’s just say that it’s been a minute. Maybe the final season of The Leftovers.

Yet, over the past couple of weeks there has been a lot of blowback over the new version of “Big Rich Town,” the track that opens up new episodes. The original version featured 50 Cent alongside R&B singer Joe, but the new version led by Trey Songz hasn’t been altogether popular. What gives here? We think that a lot of it comes out of admiration for 50’s work. Meanwhile, a lot of it also has to do with the simple fact that a lot of people don’t like change. They’re happy with things the way that they are sometimes, seeing things that are different — especially in the final season of a show — can be a bummer.

If you are someone who was sad about the theme-song switch, know this — it looks as though Power is going to be getting back to normal. In a new post on Instagram (see below), executive producer 50 Cent confirms that on Sunday’s new episode (which he directed), you will have a chance in order to see the old theme song back. We’ll see if it sticks around, but we think that it’s likely going to be the case.

Here’s the irony with this situation — if this remix was just released separate from Power and was never put on the show itself, it would probably be praised universally. Yet, the problem is that it replaced something on the show itself … something that was already beloved.
