The Blacklist season 7 poster: Megan Boone, James Spader, & trust

The Blacklist logo any season

Today, NBC unveiled the first poster for The Blacklist season 7, and this is one that feels both familiar and new at the same time.

You can see the poster below (via TV Guide), and what stands out about it first is that much like the posters for the past two seasons, Liz Keen (Megan Boone) and Raymond Reddington (James Spader) are featured in black and white. Meanwhile, the show’s oh-so-recognizable logo is in clear red, standing out amidst everything else that is present here.

To some, we feel like this poster is a step up from the season 6 key art, which hid Reddington’s face while his iconic hat was front and center. That may have been a reminder of how Reddington’s true identity was a secret entering the season. This time around, the paradigm is different — we’ve been led to believe, at least for the time being, that Reddington is Ilya Koslov, a man from Katarina Rostova’s past. As to whether or not that is truly the case, time will tell.

The slogan for this season should raise some eyebrows: “He told you not to trust him.” Remember what he said at the start of the series: “Everything about me is a lie.” That may mean his identity, or the perception of his identity. We do think that Liz can trust him in that he wants to protect her — that much is clear. The motivations why and his future plans are still a mystery.

It’s also worth noting that there is nowhere within the poster that mentions that this is the final season. As someone who would like to think this would be announced far in advance, maybe that gives us some hope for a season 8 down the road.

Side note, we still don’t understand why NBC is double-branding most of their posters — you already have the NBC logo at the bottom of the poster; why include it above the title, as well?

The Blacklist season 7 premieres come Friday, October 4 with new episodes.
