New Amsterdam season 2 spoilers: Meet Valentina Castro
According to a new report from TVLine, Ana Villafañe has been brought on board in the major role of Dr. Valentina Castro, an important character given that she’s going to be responsible for treating Max Goodwin moving forward. She is an oncologist and someone who is very determined to do what’s best for her patients. Her arrival was teased somewhat near the end of season 1, as Helen Sharpe requested for some of Max’s records be sent her way. It’s because of this that we don’t think that this is necessarily evidence that something horrible is going to happen to Helen following the dramatic season 1 cliffhanger.
This casting also does signal that no matter what’s going on in Max’s life (there is a good chance that his wife Georgia may be dead), his cancer battle is going to remain an integral part of the story moving forward. That’s realistic given that you don’t just recover from what he’s gone through overnight or even a few months, provided that there isn’t some sort of time jump coming up. He’s going to continue to need as much help as he can.

As for some other casting news…
The site also confirms that Homeland actor Ian Duff will play the part of Dr. Floyd Reynolds’ new intern Michael Duke. The character is described as having “innate gifts when it comes to surgery but still has a lot to learn when it comes to being a good doctor.” Consider this another reminder that doctors need bedside manner, good social skills, and an understanding of how to care for others in order to be good at their job.
New Amsterdam season 2 will premiere next month on NBC, and we are hoping already that it will be as powerful a medical drama as ever.
