MTV VMAs 2019: Where to watch, live stream red-carpet pre-show

VMAs

Tonight is the 2019 MTV VMAs! There was a time when this was undoubtedly one of the biggest events of the year insofar as music goes. We don’t know if it has the same pop-culture splash in the social-media age that it once did, but make no mistake that it’s still a pretty big deal. There’s a huge lineup of performers tonight and, beyond that, probably some memorable red-carpet moments. After all, we’d say that over the years, the VMAs has played host to more red-carpet headlines than almost any other awards show under the sun.

With this in mind, it’s understandable that you’d want to be around to see the red-carpet pre-show. So when can you do that? Per the VMAs official Twitter, you can see the red carpet pre-show starting on their account at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time (4:00 p.m. Pacific). That is an hour before the show itself airs, and that is ample time in order to see all of the stars appear on the red carpet and talk about various things. (There is no authorized stream for the show itself.)

Of course, don’t expect all of the stars of the VMAs to be present, as some may choose to not walk the carpet. Meanwhile, others may be getting ready for their big performances a little bit later in the night.

Want to know the list of performers? Think along the lines of Big Sean featuring A$AP Ferg, H.E.R., Normani, Ozuna, Miley Cyrus, Missy Elliott, Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers, Bad Bunny, Camila Cabello, Fetty Wap, J Balvin, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Naughty by Nature, Queen Latifah, Redman, Rosalia, Shawn Mendes, and Wyclef Jean. You’ll also see a number of notable presenters, including Miley’s father Billy Ray Cyrus — in the headlines this year for his own collaboration with Lil Nas X on “Old Town Road.” We expect that song to dominate the attention tonight, given that it has now has the Billboard Hot 100 record for most weeks at #1.

While we do have an idea in our head of where we expect the VMAs to go tonight, remember this — we’ve seen so many surprises at the show over the years! That goes in terms of winners, but also acceptance speeches and performances that teeter on the side of risque. Artists want to push the envelope.
