The Affair season 5 episode 1 sneak peek: The trash discussion
In the video below, you can get a good sense of some of what could be coming in the episode ahead — namely, we’re talking about Helen being very much upset over seeing her ex cart some of the garbage to the curb. In her mind, that’s not his job — it’s Vik’s, and she doesn’t appreciate him trying to do it. Unfortunately, Vik’s not there — it’s not clear in this preview whether or not he is still alive, but all signs point to him being gone and Helen’s not able to accept that just yet.

More than that, though, Helen doesn’t want what feels like hollow sympathy from a man in Noah who was not there when she needed him the most. He doesn’t get, in her mind, to come storming back into her life to be this sort of savior figure when she doesn’t need him or want him. She wants to find a different way forward, and even if Noah wants forgiveness, redemption, or to be a greater part in his family’s lives, there may not be a guarantee of any of that happening.
We know already that the story for Helen could get a little bit more complicated — after all, she could get romantically intertwined with someone who plays a version of Noah in his movie! We’re not at that point within this sneak preview, but that is something to expect to see happen.
In the end, consider this sneak peek a reminder that The Affair is a show so powerful, it could even make a preview about trash into something so much more profound.
