Is Christian Serratos leaving The Walking Dead for new Selena series?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Serratos is in negotiations to appear on an upcoming Netflix project where she would play the part of Selena Quintanilla. The famed singer was already the subject of a famed movie starring Jennifer Lopez, but with the longer run time, this series would have the opportunity to explore all sorts of different life avenues and aspects of who she was.
Beyond a shadow of a doubt, this would be an enormous opportunity for Serratos to do something different after years on the AMC zombie drama — but it does throw her future as that character into question. The Walking Dead isn’t necessarily a year-round job, but it occupies so much space that it’s basically impossible for you to do this show and be a lead somewhere else. A good example of this was Lauren Cohan doing Whiskey Cavalier after years of being a full-time cast member as Maggie.
If Serratos does take this gig, it does dictate the possible end of Rosita as a full-time character on The Walking Dead — yet, we don’t think that it 100% dictates that she will never be on the show ago. We’ve already seen the writers shift Maggie off to a mysterious off-camera role, and there could be something similar here. Or, Rosita could die and this could be an occasion where the writers use this death to inspire some other stories moving forward. It’s a similar sort of situation to what we saw with Sasha when Sonequa Martin-Green decided to leave to do Star Trek Discovery.
New episodes of The Walking Dead season 10 are going to premiere this fall over on AMC — yet, we have a hard time imagining that there will be answers on Rosita’s future right away. Instead, you may have to wait until closer to the end of season 10 to get answers one way or another.
