Welcome to the Sci-Fi Character Battle, a new CarterMatt Feature for the month of August! Over the past several years, sci-fi is a genre that has become so diverse and also so fantastic. You’ve got shows about space travel, zombies, time-travel, angels, demons, mermaids, artificial intelligence, and a whole lot more! Within this series, we’re going to do our part to spotlight many of the best characters within the genre … and then ask which ones you like the best.
Ready for round 2 to begin? Well, today we’re offering up the second part of semifinalists with characters from Fear the Walking Dead, Killjoys, Wynonna Earp, and Supernatural showing that they’ve got what it takes to make it to the finale. These are characters who combine so much of what viewers love about this genre — imagination, heart, humor, and also an incredible amount of care for those around them. As a result of that, we care for all of them infinitely. Two of the four semifinalists will advance to the final round.
Voting Rules – Voting will remain open until Wednesday, August 21 at 3:00 p.m. Pacific time; the advancing characters will move forward to the finale, which begins on August 21. You can vote however often you’d like; for more technical information if you’re having issues, check out the bottom of this article.
Alicia Clark, Fear the Walking Dead – It shouldn’t come as too much of a shock that Alycia Debnam-Carey’s character made it here. What we know about her is that she’s fearless, she’s evolved so much over the years, and there could be some powerful stuff ahead in terms of the remainder of season 5.
Dutch, Killjoys – What we love about his character is her utter versatility — we’ve seen her in SO many different environments through the past four seasons, let alone the challenges she’s taken on in between prison and so much more in season 5. Dutch is a fighter — but there’s also so much to her beyond just that.
Waverly Earp, Wynonna Earp – Waverly is one of two Wynonna Earp characters to make it to round two of the Character Battle, and we think it’s easy to spell out the reasons for her appeal — passion, humor, and still a fierce determination. She’s a source of great comedy, but can also be heartfelt and incredibly vulnerable.
Dean Winchester, Supernatural – Perhaps one of the craziest things here is that Dean has appeared in more episodes than all of the other contenders combined. That doesn’t make Dean the winner (that’s up to you guys), but it does show that he’s been able to anchor this show alongside his brother Sam in stellar ways. This level of consistency on TV these days is impossible!
