Good Trouble season 2 episode 9 return date hopes for Maia Mitchell, cast
Let’s just start things off here by making the following very much clear: Freeform has a weird habit of labeling things “summer and winter finales” rather than season/midseason finales. Because of that, it can be rather difficult to know what’s actually going on the majority of the time. This is where CarterMatt comes in to help make it a bit more clear.
Tonight isn’t the Good Trouble season finale — it’s really the midseason finale. It’s a pit stop while you wait for some more of the series to eventually come on the air. The question is when some of those stories will come back around. While Freeform has yet to announce a return date for the remaining season 2 episodes, the safest bet is early 2020 — this follows the longstanding Freeform pattern of delivering summer/winter cycles for some of their established hits, and it also at the same time allows the writers time to deliver more of these stories. There have been a lot of Good Trouble episodes that have aired so far in 2019 as it is. The series first premiered in early January and since that time, we’ve made it all the way through season 1 and halfway through season 2. It’s hard to be too greedy after that.
It’s possible that Freeform will deliver an approximate return date after tonight’s finale; if they do, we will have an update within this piece, so be sure to stick around.
Will there be a Good Trouble season 3 on the other side of this? That’s not a decision that Freeform needs to make immediately, but come early next year, the cast will probably need to know in order to start preparing new episodes for summer 2020. While the live ratings for season 2 are down around 20% in the 18-49 demographic, what we’re learning with Freeform these days that they care more about DVR ratings, ownership, cost, and streaming viability. Because of these factors, it’s harder to gauge whether or not any show will come back … but we’re confident that there will be at least one more of this one. It just has SO much history at this point dating all the way back to the start of The Fosters.
Fun fact — depending on if Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists is canceled, Good Trouble may be the last Freeform show with ties to the ABC Family days.
