Euphoria finale: Zendaya, Hunter Schafer on Rae, Jules storyline

Euphoria season 1 Rue

Tonight’s Euphoria finale brought you a lot of elements — sadness, fear, longing, and also love. There were steps forward for Rue, but also a pivotal decision at the end of the finale. Her decision to not run away with Jules at the end of the episode was a big her. She wanted to be with her and wants to spend time with her. She wants nothing more than that. However, at the same time Rue realized that there was something more that she needed to do. She couldn’t leave her family behind with all of the trauma that they’ve endured from the start of the series.

In a new video, what you can see is some additional reflection on the course of this journey from some people who have been there for every step: Zendaya and Hunter Schafer. They talk about what Rue and Jules through and this journey where the two eventually realized that they love each other and want that future together. They want that dream, but Euphoria also is not a dream world. This is a paradise that was taken away from the two before they even had a chance to fully live in it. They can’t embrace it as they may want to in an ideal world.

What happened at the end of the episode tonight is no indictment on who these characters are or how they feel about each other. It’s a snapshot in a sea of important snapshots and moments and through the next season, you’ll see what the next series is. That’s the good thing about knowing that there is another batch of episodes coming. It’s embracing and celebrating the opportunity to dive more into the next course of events and the next fundamental steps that get you somewhere important.

Despite being a show explicitly set in high school, it’s easy to forget how much life these characters still have ahead for them. We hope that for Rue and Jules, there will be more chances to determine where they stand in life, what they want, and also if there’s a way for them to truly have it all.
