‘Downton Abbey’ season 3, episode 6 preview: Last-minute hints

Before we finally arrive to the new episode of “Downton Abbey” that will be airing on ITV Sunday night, why don’t we take one final look at just what we can expect to see transpire during the hour? It’s going to yet again be one of the most interesting episodes of the entire year, and there will be some surprises that few people see coming.

In addition to some of the impressions we shared on Friday, here’s some more about what we know will be featured heavily here. Not only will Tom Branson choose to give his daughter an interesting name, but all sorts of madness will break loose when he shares his thoughts as to why the child should be Catholic thanks to his own religious background. Religion will lead to an all-out verbal war at one point at the dinner table, and the emotions will be heightened more than ever thanks in part to the fact that there is so much heartache and loss at the moment when you remember the tragic death of Sybil from last week.

We already know that Robert and Cora are going to especially be feeling the strain from what he told the doctor last week, and there is going to be an unusual person to serve as a mediator of sorts for the two parties this week, which we personally consider to be good since she really has to not had that much to do this season: Violet. We were actually expecting much more of the Dowager Countess and Martha this season than we have ultimately received, so it will be nice to see what sort of material Maggie Smith has as we near the end of the season.

Finally, we’re not going to give away what happens after Isobel takes a chance on Ethel; however, we will say that she has to be rather grateful for some of the friends that she has back at Downton at the moment.
