The Affair season 5 episode 1 spoilers: How the final season begins

As you may have heard already, The Affair season 5 is going to be the final one for the series on Showtime. Through that, there are some clear things that we are anticipating. Take, for starters, a chance to watch something real and emotional play out with the characters who are left … and then also going to the future to see the world through an Older Joanie’s eyes.

One of the things that we wonder entering the final season is whether or not this is anywhere close to the original dream that was there for season 1. Do you think the intention ever was to have this be the series finale? Hardly. Yet, sometimes with a show you go with the flow and this is where we are. Allison is gone. Cole may be gone in the final season. It doesn’t seem like Vik is going to live too much longer. The premiere is going to be featuring Noah and Helen primarily, but you will also get a look at the Joanie storyline at the same time. As this episode progresses, Noah’s movie is going to become more and more important — and not only to him. There could be some important emotional ties to Helen that come out of this movie and as the season goes along, you are going to see Helen in particular gravitate towards Sasha Mann more and more. How all of this turns out remains to be seen but after a sensational season 4, we think that there are many reasons for confidence.
