Madam Secretary season 6 filming update; Elizabeth’s campaign!
In a post on Twitter, series star Tea Leoni confirmed that they recently wrapped filming the premiere episode, which was directed by a rather-familiar face in Eric Stoltz. We’ve seen him in front of the camera numerous times as Elizabeth’s brother Will Adams, but he’s also directed a dozen and a half installments of the show! With this being the final chapter for the series and the one that brings us the closest to Elizabeth becoming President, it makes sense to have someone experienced on the show kicking things off in the best possible way.

We know already that season 6 is going to feel very much different from any that came before it. For starters, this is no longer about just the State Department — it’s about Elizabeth doing what she can in order to become President of the United States. Throughout much of the final season, we expect a depiction of life out on the campaign trail as she tries to court voters on her message. Elizabeth is about finding common values and making the world a better, safer place for everyone. We don’t think that she is going to be interested in the idea of slinging mud or playing dirty politics, but can she avoid it? This is one of the big questions that this past season of Designated Survivor asked with Kiefer Sutherland’s Tom Kirkman. While he (season 3 spoiler alert for that show) was able to retain his office, it came at a heavy cost. For Elizabeth, she will have to weigh that cost. We think she’ll be able to figure things out, but it will take some work and collaboration with her team.
The final season of Madam Secretary will only run for ten episodes, and it is going to premiere early on this fall. We’ll have more news as we inch closer to the premiere over at the link here.
