Chicago PD season 7: Who is Vanessa Rojas? Meet new major character

Is Chicago PD season 7 bringing on board a new major character in Vanessa Rojas? Based on early indications, that appears to be the case.

According to a new report from Deadline, The Fosters alum Lisseth Chavez (she played Ximena on that series) has been brought on board to play Rojas, a young woman who is described as a relentless undercover cop. She will appear first in a recurring capacity, with a chance for her to become a series regular at some point down the line.

It’s been inevitable for the past couple of years that Chicago PD would eventually bring someone new into the fold, given that season 5 led to the death of Olinsky (Elias Koteas). Meanwhile, Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) departed the show at the end of season 6. With the cast shrinking, there needed to be some new characters to fill in some of those cracks. Rojas could fill a little bit of that void and bring a new overall energy to the show.

As we approach the new batch of episodes, the world of Chicago PD should look and feel rather different than anything that we saw beforehand. Take, for starters, what happened to Kelton at the end of the season — not only will the city of Chicago need a new Mayor, but they are also going to need a new superintendent of police, as well. Signs point to the latter character already being cast. In terms of relationships, there is also a lot of room to explore things for Halstead, Upton, Burgess, Ruzek, and Atwater based on where things ended for all of them in season 6. It’d be especially nice to see Atwater get a little bit of consistent love in his life, given that he is the character who finds himself being routinely shafted in that department.

Chicago PD season 7 will premiere this fall — here’s to hoping that there’s another theme to this season that feels relevant, and also appropriate to all of these characters and also the city of Chicago at large.
