Suits season 9 episode 4 preview: Donna’s father Jim Paulsen returns
Jim Paulsen isn’t a character who is firmly ingrained in Suits lore. While we’ve seen him before, it was brief and he doesn’t serve a regular purpose on the show. In general, Donna’s family life isn’t talked about all that much — see the remark about her sister in this week’s episode as some evidence of that very thing!
Yet, in next week’s “Cairo” you will see Harvey doing whatever he can to make a good impression on Jim. It’s probably more than clear to everyone out there that Harvey doesn’t need the approval of Jim Paulsen to be happy in his relationship; Donna’s not the sort to care about what her father thinks. Yet, it makes some sense that he would want his approval given his own rocky family history that has been well-documented for so many years.

It’s possible that Jim and Harvey get along just fine, but there are some other issues that could be coming down the road. The Suits season 9 episode 4 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below makes some of those very clear:
Faye takes action against Harvey and Donna’s relationship, as Harvey looks to impress Donna’s father.
Why does Faye want to cause chaos when it comes to Harvey and Donna’s relationship? It’s probably due to the possible conflict of interest that it could present since these are two people who need to make business decisions while also still in a personal relationship. She clearly doesn’t think that they are capable of this, even though we very well know that they are and that Harvey and Donna JUST talked about this tonight! The fact that Faye knows about Donna’s relationship with Thomas Kessler and how that impacted the firm only adds to some of the drama.
While Faye may act like she is moving through her process in an emotionless way, let’s be clear — we don’t believe her. we think that she may be motivated now to some extent by Harvey’s actions and open defiance of her. She’s only human, after all!
