Entering Ink Master season 12 episode 9 on the Paramount Network next week, it’s clear that the women have a lot of great stuff going for them. They are a group of talented artists and, more than that, they are coming off of one of their best performances of the whole season. They killed it with the new-school challenge on this week’s episode. For the first time all season, the bottom three artists were all men.
Of course, here’s the thing about a show like this: Momentum does not always last. Just because you dominate a challenge in one episode doesn’t mean you come out the next day and kill it. There’s a chance for the artists to sleep, regroup, and think about how to change things up. There’s also often a Flash Challenge in between that can be a game-changer.
After losing one of their strongest artists in Fon, we think that the men are going to enter this next episode feeling very intent on making sure the mistakes of the past don’t become big parts of their present. They’re going to find a way in order to ensure that there aren’t any more issues coming their way soon. They need to regroup, make sure they have as many big advantages that they can, and then try to make sure that one of the women go home.
Meanwhile, we wonder for the women if they’re going to develop a sense of complacency. After dominating tonight, they could start to feel like they’re sure to have a winning streak and then stumble. The promo hinted that there is some conflict coming and division within the women’s team. Are they really supporting each other at all times, or is there some sabotage afoot? The promo makes it look like it could be either/or.
No matter what happens, we’re almost at a point now where every elimination could be surprising. There are a couple of tattooers who seem a little weaker than the rest, but come episode 11 or so every exit could be almost as surprising as Fon’s … almost.
