Lucifer season 5: Will added episodes change up filming?

Lucifer

If you didn’t hear the fantastic recent news, we’re going to get more episodes of Lucifer season 5 than first planned! We’ve heard already that there are going to be sixteen episodes for the upcoming final season, up six from the initial order.

We’ve already raised a number of different questions at the moment when it comes to the series’ future, whether it be how Netflix will release them (will it be a split season?) to also what sort of possibilities the show now has in terms of notable stories to tell. We’re hoping that we’re going to have a chance to see more of Lucifer and Chloe actually together because of these added episodes.

Now, let’s look at things from a production point of view — is there a reasonably good chance that this is going to have an impact on filming? In terms of start dates, we don’t think that it will. The plan was for filming to start off later this summer and, at the moment, we don’t have a feeling that this is going to change. Production schedules are prepared far in advance and for employees, it’s hard in order for that to change.

With that being said, we would say that the big changes could come for season 5 production a little bit later on down the road. Filming will last a little bit longer! Back when there was a ten-episode season ordered, that meant that production would run until around the holiday season — similar to what we saw in season 4. Now, it’s likely that filming will run until 2020. Most actors have this time potentially allotted in advance just in case — but because of their series-regular status, Lucifer comes first even if they run into some surprise conflicts.

The longer episode order will mean more post-production, more editing, and likely a later premiere date … unless there’s a split season, as we mentioned earlier. Even if there is a later start time, it’s hard to imagine too many angry people given that we’re getting more of a great story we love.
