Claws season 3 episode 9 preview: Will Desna kill Melba?

Claws season 3 episode 9 is entitled “Melba Toast” and after what we saw tonight, it’s pretty clear why that is. Entering this episode, Desna has herself a clear mission via the triad: Killing Melba. Following the death of Mac, she’s now a liability. She’s going to be looked at as someone who could barge in and interrupt an operation and that is not something that these people want to risk. Their mission is ensuring that they can go about their business without chaos. Melba is suddenly an agent of chaos.

We’re getting a sense in this world as to why the triads are so successful — they have focus. They have an understanding of what needs to be done for their success. They are also ruthless and terrifying and this is a pretty major component of who they are, but they don’t care about that. Morality is not high on their list of concerns.

The Toby storyline here is just as important as what’s going on with Desna, mostly because of what it’s hinting at. Is he about to come clean about what he did to Virginia at the end of last season? That may be on the back of some characters’ minds given everything that is happening within the present, but it is clearly enough to push some people into revenge. It could raise the stakes for a bloody conclusion to season 3, and that could prove to be especially interesting when you consider just how gory and crazy things have already proven themselves to be so far. We’ve already lost both Arlene and Mac, and we gotta think that with the triad around, even more bodies could fall on the floor before the end.
