Lucifer season 5: Should it air in a split-season format?

At the moment, what we know is that Lucifer season 5 is that it will be running for 16 episodes — six more than season 4. What happens with Netflix and how they choose to air these should be interesting.
The benefit to adopting a split-season format is simple: You can get a little more bang for your buck if you are Netflix. You are able to put the first eight episodes on the air maybe a little earlier in the spring than season 4 premiered, and then you could launch the final eight episodes a little later in the year. That means probably more revenue from fans, which is fundamentally what Netflix is looking for. This is, after all, a business. We know that the moment those first eight episodes are done, people will clamor for more eventually … but that is not a bad thing.
Our feeling, for now, is that Netflix will do a split-season model for season 5, but that is just a feeling. As co-showrunner Ildy Modrovich noted on Twitter recently, she can’t say anything about for certain but will make it clear as soon as she can.
Is there a benefit at all to not adopting a split-season format? We were trying to think about it. The only perceived advantage is that maybe you premiere all 16 episodes next summer and maybe, you get them all out there to consumers faster than if you were to do a season 5A and 5B … but it means that fans would be waiting longer to get any of them at all. Given that someone could subscribe to Netflix for one month and watch them all, we’re not sure how this is the most beneficial to them.
