Is Another Life renewed for season 2, canceled at Netflix? The latest odds
Let’s begin with this: There is nothing certain as of yet about the Katee Sackhoff series’ future. It’s just premiering today on the service, so it’s not at a point yet where it can render a verdict one way or another. They will chart its performance over the next few weeks and then try and find a way to move forward from there. Netflix does have more of a history of canceling shows after only one year at this point — they’ve done it with several series across the board as of late, and even decided to keep their arrival of Designated Survivor around for a single season. Four or five years ago, we’d say that Another Life would be granted a second season on the spot because they were trying to build up a programming library; we’re just not at that spot anymore.
From the get-go, we understand what Netflix was going for with this series. They want their own space adventures to rival Amazon with The Expanse, CBS All Access with Star Trek: Discovery, and even now Hulu with The Orville. Given how Sackhoff became a household name because of Battlestar Galactica, it made sense for her to be the star of the show. Reviews to date have been mixed, but we think that there will be an influx of viewers curious to check it out right away out of curiosity alone.
If there is one reason for skepticism, it is this — Another Life hasn’t received a flurry of promotion. It’s a fraction of what Stranger Things or even Lucifer received earlier this year. Unless you were browsing Netflix or read a lot of TV news, we’re not 100% sure that you would even know that the show is coming out today. It’s not a secret per se, but its release just sort of exists. It floats out into the world and, for the time being, it just has to hope that viewers find it.
