Next week on The Loudest Voice episode 5, you will see the story fast-forward once again to “2012.” This is an important time in the history of Fox News — the network is at the peak of its popularity, it has found a way to infiltrate a huge chunk of the country, and Roger Ailes is more powerful than he’s ever been before.
Yet, in a lot of ways this is the beginning of the end for Roger. This is when he comes across something — or someone — that he isn’t going to be able to contend with any longer. Gretchen Carlson breaks the wheel and turns the story of Ailes on its head. Following Gretchen accusing the media mogul of sexual misconduct and harassment, it leads to a number of other allegations. From there, it leads to a number of other accusations down the road. Nothing happens immediately, but the ripple effect was clear and evident.
Below, CarterMatt has The Loudest Voice episode 5 synopsis with some additional news on what’s ahead:
Fox News Channel is now the dominant news outlet and Roger is working the levers of his power, but he doesn’t see the danger posed by Gretchen Carlson; after years of harassment by Roger, she’s finally had enough.
What The Loudest Voice has done through the past several weeks is tell a powerful story about a rise to power — now, we have to wait for some of the fall. This is a difficult show in a lot of ways, mostly because it’s such a difficult sell. Even for those who relished in the downfall of Roger Ailes, is still watching a show about him, and knowing the fortune that he amassed, altogether appealing? The ratings for the show straight out of the gate were not altogether spectacular but since that time, they’ve steadily picked up a little bit more steam. This is one of those shows that is a quality play more so than anything else, and the goal for Showtime as a network now should just be finding a way to keep that momentum going from this to some other projects in the future.
