Better Call Saul season 5 filming update: How far along are things?

Better Call Saul season 5

We know that Better Call Saul season 5 is currently in production, but how far along is filming? Are we getting near the end of the road?

For the time being, it does appear as though that’s the case! In a new post on Twitter, executive producer Thomas Schnauz makes it clear that the crew is prepping the penultimate episode of the fifth season — with the current timeline and how long it takes to film new episodes, production should wrap at some point next month. For the remainder of the year, Better Call Saul will be in post-production as the team does all of their wizardry in order to ensure that the best overall product comes together. That takes time and we’re glad AMC is patient enough for that to happen.

So what will season 5 consist of story-wise? Based on all of the info that’s out there already, suggestions indicate that we are primed to see the journey of how Saul Goodman becomes the famed “criminal lawyer” we see in Breaking Bad — and maybe how he loses Kim Wexler in the process. He’s already decided to go by the new moniker now that he has his license back, and that in itself is a cause for concern for her. We’re hoping that there will be at least a small Gene flash-forward at the start of the season and as for the other characters, we’ll see the continued rise of Mike within Gus’ operation, leading to some of the events that happen midway through the run of Breaking Bad.

There could be a few more surprises that are coming up around the bend, as well — we are at the point where much of the story of Better Call Saul is assumed, so we imagine that a part of the challenge for the writers is trying to divert those assumptions.
