We don’t think that this news should shock anyone out there, but you’re going to get more of Fear the Walking Dead beyond what’s coming later this summer.
Today at San Diego Comic-Con, AMC confirmed that their Walking Dead spin-off series will be coming back for another batch of new episodes. The easy assumption, based on past patterns, is that these episodes will be airing in 2020.

Consider this renewal yet another reminder that few networks are as loyal to a franchise as the network is this one. The ratings for season 5 are down a lot versus season 4 last year, when the show had an opportunity to kick things off after the main series in the franchise. There is still a solid viewership by cable standards, but it’s not a sizable hit like it was in the earlier seasons. Fear the Walking Dead may be suffering somewhat still from the polarizing decision to kill off Kim Dickens’ character of Madison, and we can only imagine what the backlash would be if Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) is the next character to bite the dust. Based on where we are in the story at the moment, there is a reasonable amount of concern for her.
Beyond Fear the Walking Dead, AMC continues to make their commitment to the franchise clear with not just the flagship show (entering its tenth season), but also another spin-off coming up revolving around the first generation of people to grow up in the zombie apocalypse. Some of the casting for that show has already been announced and it’s going to be premiering at some point next year. There is also the Rick Grimes movie project, which has been worked on in secret for some time. There may be more info handed down on the subject throughout the next few days.
