America’s Got Talent review: Messoudi Brothers, Berywam, & Judge Cuts

AGT Judge CutsTonight on NBC, the America’s Got Talent Judge Cuts round is there! There are a ton of acts stopping in to perform tonight but only seven of them will be put through to the next round.

Within this article, we’re going to be breaking down some of the acts who we end up seeing as the night goes on. Be sure to refresh this article for some more updates on the acts as we progress. We’ve also got a new video below with additional thoughts — once you check that out, subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more news and view our AGT playlist.

Lukas and Falco – The first act of the night and a stellar one! This dog act brought it in spades versus the first audition earlier this season and from start to finish, this was all sorts of fantastic. Great choreography, energy, and a great circus theme — this may have been Simon Cowell pandering but it was smart Simon Cowell pandering.

Andy Rowell – This was the same exact thing as last time — the joke of him standing there doing karaoke worked the first time but he needed to have a different joke the second time.

The Orange Magician – This was really weird and he actually looks like he could be a Pete Davidson character from Saturday Night Live. We’ve seen quick-change artists before, but he was fun and different! That’s something we’ll always embrace.

Berywam – Their goal was to create a nightclub atmosphere for their beatboxing/acapella performance this time around. What was so unique about what they did here was that they did some dated songs amidst a hip-hop medley and it all worked. This was current, cool, but it could’ve used more musicality.

Emerald Belles Dance Team – We actually thought, because of the editing leading up to the audition, that they were going to get the Golden Buzzer from Brad. That didn’t happen. They may still be a high school dance team, but they’re about as good of one as you’re going to find.

Sentimentalists – A much better performance than what we saw the first time around. While we do think their individual characters need a little bit more work, they did cram a lot in here to make them stand out from the typical mentalist performers.

Duo Togni – Fantastic from start to finish — not only that, but we appreciate the challenge that they took on trying to prove Howie Mandel wrong. They didn’t pout over him criticizing him the first time around. Instead, they decided to come right at him and involve him!

Sophie Pecora – She is tonight’s Golden Buzzer! Read more over at the link here.

Matthew Richardson – After a fantastic audition, he still came out and brought it here for a beautiful performance tonight dedicated to his late father. The athleticism is still there, but so is his sense of artistry and wanting to tell a story through every movement.

Damiyr – What he brings to the AGT stage as an artist is a unique voice and a willingness to take risks. Going up on stage and doing “Say Something” with a stripped-down track is not something many people would do. Yet, Damiyr went out there and did it!

Chris Klafford – His audition to “Imagine” was one of the most iconic moments of the season. This was a larger challenge since we’re talking about an original song and he totally delivered with it! It wasn’t great in the same ways as the first performance but it rocked at the same time.

Messoudi Brothers – This was an outstanding physical showcase! There are so many great strength/agility acts out there, but still these two managed to do something that was exciting and different — and with their father coming out of retirement.

Ndlovu Youth Choir – They closed out the show and what they brought with them was a constant sense of energy, musicality, and the spirit of their homes in South Africa. They were an outstanding way to close the show as they brought an energy we hadn’t seen.

The results!
