Will Cassidy Reid be ready to dive into her new position as Attorney General on Yellowstone season 2 episode 4? In the new sneak peek that CarterMatt has for you below she seems eager — but there are still many struggles to come.
One struggle that is lying underneath the surface may be one related to Jamie. Is he going to be okay with her getting this position in the long-term? Up until the end of this past episode it was something that he wanted for himself … at least until he realized that he wasn’t willing to destroy his family in order to do so and work with a rival. He chose his morality over an election, and while that’s an admirable trait, there’s no guarantee that he will commit to having this attitude the rest of his career. This may just be a decision that he made in the moment and it’s one that may take an emotional toll.
Just look at how he’s reacting in the appointment meeting with Cassidy in the sneak peek. He is friendly enough to greet her in the room, but doesn’t seem thrilled when the news starts to rattle off that she’s going to get the AG position without any fight. With Jamie out of the running, she’s now got the gig unopposed. He gets a call and leaves the office and at that point, the objective becomes needing to brief Cassidy on some important cases that are currently in process.
It’s still much too early to know what the long-term ramifications are going to be of Cassidy getting this role — it’s something that Beth wanted, given that she thought it could help with some of the battles to come. We know that there are many to prepare for, as John Dutton will find himself circled by cultures aplenty and the fate of the ranch continues to be in flux.
Without this campaign, Jamie now finds himself adrift without a specific direction in his life. He’s too much of a city guy for the ranch, and he also doesn’t have the government position he was striving for. Where does he go from here? He’ll need to figure it out.
