Is Alycia Debnam-Carey leaving Fear the Walking Dead, and the character of Alicia Clark, sooner rather than later? Following tonight’s new episode, no one could blame you if you were to have some nervousness in the pit of your stomach.
After all, just think about what’s going on with that contaminated blood. We’ve seen and heard already about what it can do and now, Alicia has been exposed to some of it. This could be something that puts this character on death’s door; yet, it may not! We don’t think that anything is 100% set in stone just yet and we would keep that in mind as we move towards the next few episodes.
One thing we do know is this situation is that no matter what happens, we’re meant to be nervous. Show executive producers Ian B. Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss confirm that in their new interview with Entertainment Weekly:
If there’s one thing that we’ve learned over the course of season 5 is that any exposure to contaminated blood can be dangerous. Grace made that very clear the moment she first crossed paths with Alicia and Morgan in episode 502. We’ve seen first-hand the devastating effects that exposure can have — both to Grace emotionally and what it did to the workers at the nuclear power plant where she worked.
All that contaminated blood on Alicia definitely puts her in a lot of risk and danger. That’s not to say that it will put her at the same level of exposure as the people from the plant, or even Grace, but it’s definitely cause for concern. This moment is also significant in regards to Alicia’s emotional journey in the season so far. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Alicia go toe-to-toe with walkers contaminated with nuclear radiation. We saw her do it at the crash site in 502 when she and Morgan were looking for Al.

If there is a reason to be worried about Alicia’s future on Fear the Walking Dead perhaps even more than the whole blood situation, it’s that this is a show that has shown, time and time again, that it has no fear killing off characters — even primary ones. Remember when Travis and Madison were the leads before the past two seasons changed everything? We still like to think of Alicia as the lead character in our mind since she’s the only survivor left from the pilot. It’s hard to imagine this being anywhere near the same show without her; she is the one remnant from that original group who got the show going. (We know Strand and Salazar were a part of season 1, but not for a while longer.)
Fingers crossed that, somehow, there is a way for Alicia to make it out — Alycia Debnam-Carey has not been confirmed to be leaving this season, so maybe there is a slight reason for hope from that.
