Community movie theories run amok after Russo Brothers’ tweet

Community -

Could a Community movie actually transpire at some point over the next several years? For years, the rallying cry of this spectacular show and its fandom was “six seasons and a movie.” We got the six seasons, even if it took a move to Yahoo! for the most-recent one to happen. This is a show that also managed to withstand many a departure, including Chevy Chase, Donald Glover, and Yvette Nicole Brown.

In the end, one of the most beautiful things about the season 6 finale was Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) realizing that he could be the last of the original Greendale Study Group left standing and he was okay with that — it was a wonderful full-circle feeling given that he was the most reluctant person to be there back in the pilot.

So let’s get now to the movie speculation. Much of this started via Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who posted the tweet below announcing the time of their upcoming “A Conversation with the Russo Brothers” Comic-Con panel. The 11:00 a.m. has now real connection to Community, but the backing audio track is of Troy and Abed’s signature Spanish rap from all the way back to season 1. The Russo Brothers were executive producers and directors for some of Community’s run; a reunion with show creator Dan Harmon and the cast would create all sorts of excitement.

Is it possible that this is nothing other than a callback to one of the Brothers’ more-famous earlier works? Sure, but they have to recognize that putting the Troy-and-Abed rap within this tweet is going to have many people feeling a certain way about what you’re planning to do. Community is one of the most beloved cult comedies of the past decade or two and the desire to get the movie has never faded. The challenge comes in getting the cast together given that so many of them are busy on other projects. Also, we’d personally want to see both Glover and Brown back in some capacity — you could bring the two back while also keeping other great people like Keith David and Paget Brewster, who were prominent through the final season.

Trust us, the moment we hear anything more about a possible Community movie, we’ll come on here in order to discuss it.

(Another fun random Community – Infinity War tie-in — Brie Larson briefly appeared on the show in a three-episode arc.)
