What’s the Mindhunter season 2 premiere date going to be at Netflix? It feels like we’ve been waiting forever to get some additional information (it’s been almost two years!) — suffice it to say, we’re that it’s finally coming out and there’s not that much of a wait left.
In a new interview on Elvis Mitchell’s podcast, show director/executive producer David Fincher (who is one of the greatest film directors on the planet) first confirmed that the drama series is going to be back on Friday, August 16. There are eight new episodes in this upcoming season, which is an order so short that it makes you wonder why in the world we were all forced to collectively wait as long as we did.
As for some of the story we’ll be seeing this time around, the show is being set from 1979 to 1981, at the time of the Atlanta child murders and the time in which Wayne Williams was tried and sentenced. There will be a number of notable other criminals who appear in the season, as you would expect for a show like Mindhunter that does spend so much time diving head-first into the psychology of some of these people. Of course, there is also a part of this where you fear that studying the criminal mind leads to obsession and we saw that happening to Holden Ford by the end of season 1 in part as a result of his relationship with Ed Kemper.
When Mindhunter season 1 first aired on Netflix, it established itself quickly after as one of the streaming service’s biggest hits. Will that momentum carry itself forward into season 2? There’s plenty reason for confidence, even though there was such a long layoff that some viewers out there may struggle being able to remember what happened on the first go-around. Sure, Netflix has had long waits before (the wait for Stranger Things 3 was pretty long), but it’s a little bit easier when you are a show a couple of years in as opposed to one that has only aired a single season.
Hopefully, most Mindhunter fans remember the reasons why the first season resonated greatly, whether it be the twisted storylines or the standout portrayal of Ed Kemper. This is a show that strives for authenticity, while also telling a story that is uniquely its own.
