‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Bruno Mars, Fred Armisen laugh it up

We’re always a little bit nervous when we see someone serve as both the host and musical guest on “Saturday Night Live,” if for no other reason than that it is quite a bit for anyone to put on their plate. Neither Elton John or Mick Jagger were particularly successful at it, and these two are among the biggest stars in all of music.

So with this in mind, we would by lying were we not to mention here that we have some skepticism about whether or not Bruno Mars can pull it off. What is working in his favor here, though, is that he is a very naturally-funny man, and he’s also someone who knows the value of hard work after spending so many years as a writer and producer before making it big as a singer on his own. Therefore, he’s going to put in the work here to be funny.

We also have a little bit of hope after watching this new promo featuring him and cast member Fred Armisen. Is this the best promo for the show we’ve ever seen? No, but it is far from the worst. These clips and by and large pretty awkward, thanks mostly to the sole fact that there is only so much you can do with these in a limited amount of time. Plus, Armisen is not as well-suited to these promos as some of the other cast members including the brilliant Bill Hader as well as Taran Killam, who finally getting some more moments in the sun this week.

What do you think about this promo, and are you hopeful that Bruno will do a great job as the show’s host?
