Is Songland new tonight on NBC? What’s next in episode 7, beyond

Songland

Is Songland new tonight on NBC? We know that for a lot of people out there, this summer songwriting show is a breath of fresh air. It’s a chance to watch some of the most creative people out there flex some of their unique muscles in a way that feels truly inspirational.

Unfortunately, you’re going to have to wait a while to see more of that inspiration come to pass. Songland will be on hiatus for the next several weeks as NBC looks to bring in their new series Bring the Funny tonight after America’s Got Talent. It could offer up its own brand of creativity, but it’s not going to be the same as watching people come up with new songs on the fly in front of big-name artists. It may be easy for people to call Bring the Funny a similar show to Last Comic Standing, but there was a songwriting show long before Songland, as well, in Platinum Hit.

When Songland does return to the air, it will be next month and at a new time: Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. It will remain after America’s Got Talent, but will be airing  following the results show. It’s nice to see NBC still showing faith in it, even though it’s not delivering an enormous ratings punch on Tuesday nights. (We’d describe the numbers as decent — not killer, but good enough for them to give us another season.)

Just in case you’re wondering what artists are going to be featured on Songland still, the key art above gives much of that away. You’re still going to see Macklemore, Charlie Puth, Old Dominion, Leona Lewis, and most interestingly OneRepublic. As many of you may know, OneRepublic is fronted by one of the show’s music producers in Ryan Tedder. When the whole band is on the show, how are they going to structure that? Is Ryan going to take on one of the songwriters on board to work on one of his band’s songs? Structurally, that’s gonna be interesting.

In the interim between now and when Songland airs, just don’t forget about it — this show’s churning out some special moments and the success of some of the tracks (think “Be Nice” from the Black Eyed Peas/will.i.am and “Green Light” from the Jonas Brothers) speak for themselves.
