Outlander video: Sam Heughan talks Stirling honorary degree, more
If you did not know, yesterday Sam received an honorary doctorate for his work on Outlander and other projects, coupled with his charitable endeavors (think Bloodwise, Marie Curie, and Cahonas Scotland) and what he has done for Scotland has a whole. In the video via STV News out of Scotland, he breaks so much of it down, discussing what the degree means to him and joking that they’ll “regret it” by the end of the day. You can see that it means a lot to him, especially since it’s not just commendation for his work on television. It’s just as much what he has done as an ambassador, and lending his voice and his fame to a number of fantastic causes.
There’s also a bit of season 1 reminiscing in the video for those of you who are nostalgic Outlander fans. Sam notes that Stirling University isn’t far from where much of their base was from the first season, and they still pass by the region on their way to work. The studio that Outlander films at isn’t too far away from Stirling and Sam’s kept up an association with the city over the years — he’s run in the local marathon! Outlander films season 5 now in some nearby forested areas, which serve as a good double for North Carolina. It’s a part of the beauty of production and skilled artists — being able to take a location and transform it into something that looks like a completely different place.
We’ve celebrated 2019 to date as the Year of Sam thanks to all of his various achievements, from the My Peak Challenge gala to some of the work he’s done in his professional career to being able to meet Prince Charles and host an event at Buckingham Palace. He’s the best part — we’re not even halfway done with the year just yet! There’s more to come and though he may be spending much of it filming Outlander, Sam always makes time for some other gigs here and there.
Outlander season 5 will premiere, most likely, on Starz at some point in 2020.
