Supernatural season 15: When is Jensen Ackles directing?

When is Jensen Ackles directing on Supernatural season 15? Given that this is the final season of the show, you had to assume he’d take this on! He’s a prolific director of the CW show, he’s done fantastic work, and for old-times’ sake, it’s nice to know he will be back in that chair.

Now, it’s all about timing … and we’ve got to scoop on when that is.

Curious about some more Supernatural video discussion? Then take a look at some of what we’ve got below! After you do that, remember to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube and also check out our show playlist.

According to a report from TVLine, you are going to see Ackles direct the fourth episode of the season! Yet, he will be stepping into the chair before anyone else. This is something that should be recognizable to longtime fans, as Supernatural has been in this place before. It makes sense for Jensen to film his episode right out of the gate because there’s additional pre-production time associated with it. It’s harder for him to do that while also still being a part of the cast. Because this show only has a tiny handful of leads, this cast works harder than just about any other! They need Jensen to be ready to act at the drop of a hat.

Will Eric Kripke return?

On a different note, the site also got a quote from the original show’s creator as to whether he’d come back to contribute to the end of the run. His answer? He’s open, but there are factors in it outside of his control — including that he’s at Sony now studio-wise and Supernatural is a Warner Bros. TV show:

“You’re at two warring houses, so I’m not sure if they’ll let me go over there,” he says. “But I would love to talk to [Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer] about the finale. … Just from hearing from the fans, I at least want to have a couple of conversations with those guys and make sure that we send Sam and Dean off into the sunset in a way that makes everybody happy.”

The value that comes from Kripke’s involvement is making the series feel full-circle. Even if he doesn’t write the final episode, knowing that his stamp on it is a wonderful homage to those early years. Those were crazy times! It still boggles our mind to think that there was an era where it wasn’t guaranteed that Supernatural would be around for even a few seasons. Now, it’s the longest-running show of its genre ever and it’s inspired more shows than we can imagine.
