Animal Kingdom season 4 episode 6 preview: Craig wants revenge

Animal Kingdom season 3

Next week’s Animal Kingdom season 4 episode 6 poses an important question: Should Craig have seen this coming? Basically from the moment she arrived, it was clear that Frankie wasn’t good news. She was working with Billy! She is capable of helping the Cody clan get some money, but doing so comes at a cost — taking more money for herself. She’s misled and tricked him and when she didn’t get what she wanted from him, she went behind his back. Let’s be clear — Craig would’ve probably preferred to be shot in the face than be in a situation where he was under Smurf’s thumb. She’s worked in order to guarantee that happens.

Because of this, “Into the Black” is going to be about vengeance — but also to a certain degree questionably choices. The synopsis below indicates some of that:

Suspicion grows when Smurf (Ellen Barkin) learns of a new threat to the family. Craig (Ben Robson) tracks down Frankie (Dichen Lachman) in the wake of her betrayal, and Deran (Jake Weary) makes a dangerous decision to try and protect his relationship with Adrian (Spencer Treat Clark).

How much should Deran do in order to actually help Adrian? There’s some information he doesn’t know, and he may be one of the few members of this family who is actually feeling some sort of real love. There’s obviously some conflict there — Adrian’s been doing some work behind his back — but they’re probably going to work through it. It’s too early for Angela and Pope and in general, Pope has too much internal dysfunction to really ever trust any of his feelings.

Animal Kingdom will continue to emphasize relationships, but really this is about those at the top of the food chain devouring some of the others who are below them. Mia is someone we’d watch out for just because she’s got the motive. While we don’t exactly think her operation is tip-top, she’s angry and that’s a big motivator, especially when she’s had J talking down to her the past couple of weeks. As smart and resourceful as J may be sometimes, he has an incredible knack for screwing himself over. There’s nothing a person hates more in this world than feeling small and J’s working to make her feel microscopic. It feels like we’re inching closer to the breaking point with her.
