The Spanish Princess episode 9 return date hopes on Starz

The Spanish Princess

When could The Spanish Princess episode 9 air on Starz? That’s the subject we could see everyone collectively wondering to themselves after today’s Part 1 finale.

We suppose that in general, the prevailing emotion we have today is gratitude that The Spanish Princess is coming back for an additional eight episodes. At the start of the series’ run earlier this spring, it’s not something that we expected. Now, it feels like a blessing and an opportunity to really close out the story of Catherine of Aragon — or at least how much of it that executive producers Emma Frost and Matthew Graham want to tell. (There is a later period of Catherine’s life that could feasibly not be addressed, depending on how far ahead in time producers could want to go.)

The question that you have to wonder is how long you’re going to have to wait in order to see The Spanish Princess back now. We at least know that the writers won’t have to spend additional time typing out scripts — Frost confirmed to us via Twitter last week that the remaining scripts have all already been written! The creative team plotted out for sixteen episodes in advance of Starz handing down the back eight episodes and because of that, filming can start in a matter of months. Many core cast members are slated to return; for spoilers (or at least some broad strokes of spoilers), just look towards history! We feel reasonably confident in thinking that the show’s not going to change things up to where Catherine sprouts wings and spends the remaining eight episodes traveling the world.

So when will The Spanish Princess actually return? There’s no firm date yet and there probably will not be for some time still — though Frost has confirmed a 2020 launch. When you account for shooting, post-production, and Starz working to find the proper premiere date, we think that there are plenty of reasonable premiere windows for the remaining episodes. It could potentially air on the other side of Outlander season 5 (which we’re hoping to see next spring), or in a perfect world the two would air on the same night, one right after the next. It would certainly bring more attention to both shows, and we feel like there should be a reasonable crossover audience between the two.

We don’t expect a formal announcement on the future of The Spanish Princess anytime soon. If we’re lucky, maybe there will be a tease or two close to the end of the year/early in 2020.

If you haven’t started watching…

Now is the time! The story is wonderfully immersive and once you check out the first couple, you’ll burn through the rest and wonder why more aren’t magically popping up on the Starz app. We don’t want to spoil any specifics in this piece in the event you haven’t seen it yet.
