The Affair season 5 teaser: Noah seeks forgiveness
Is this the season that Noah Solloway is actually going to be able to find some element of peace? It certainly seems like he’s trying, but the realization he needs to make along the way is that at some point, you get so far down the road where forgiveness just isn’t possible. That is the position that he finds himself in now, and this is where Helen is going to be in a rather difficult spot of her own.
As the new teaser below makes it clear, Noah’s going to be doing what he can to try to atone from some of what’s happened in the past — which is a rather long laundry list of things. But, no matter how apologetic and remorseful he is, Helen doesn’t need to forgive him and he may have to realize that. Her life does not exist the cater to his every whim. She’s her own person with our own demons in our own struggles. She’s clearly been through a lot, and may still be in mourning depending on what happened to Vik at the end of season 4. This is not a story about any one thing, whether it be grief, loss, where determination to find answers. It’s basically a cocktail of everything that you have to sip with each passing episode.
May Noah finds happiness, but the truth is that not everyone finds that in life.
What the teaser for season 5 does not give away is what’s coming far into the future. This is the part of the final season that we’re the most curious about, given that True Blood alum Anna Paquin is playing a major role as the adult version of Joanie, who it’s going to be desperate seeking answers on what happened to Allison. In a lot of ways, it feels like a separate show. Yet, knowing The Affair and also the way that executive producer Sarah Treem sometimes does things, it’s probably going to be connected in some ways that people just don’t see coming. Thematically, maybe both what we’re getting in the past in the present will link up. Maybe this season is all about answers, or at least the reality that you don’t always get them in the way in which you want.
