Yellowstone season 2 episode 2 preview: A fight and ‘New Beginnings’

Yellowstone episode 8

Yellowstone isn’t going to settle down when it comes to some of its fighting. You saw that play out in the premiere episode and while we may not see a bull charge into a bar anytime soon (been there done that), you’ll see something different in season 2 episode 2 next week. Something a little more personal. “New Beginnings” will pick up where tonight’s new episode left off and, give us a chance to check in on John Dutton.

Will John recover from his ulcer? That seems likely, mostly because the network would cry itself to sleep over killing off Kevin Costner’s character. Also, the show just got a season 3 renewal and we like to imagine they’d want him to be a part of it. Once Dutton recovers, there are plenty of other problems that could be coming his way. Think in terms of him trying to grapple with someone like Dan trying to overtake the ranch and do what so many Big Bads do — turn them into residential properties for a quick buck. He has to contend with this, politicians, and the typical influx of money-grubbing newcomers who want to cause problems because they somehow think they know what’s better for the community than people who actually live there.

Oh, and this brings us back to the fight that we mentioned in the title. It’s not a good thing when one of Dutton’s own kids and his right-hand man start going at each other, but that’s what is coming up here. If these are “New Beginnings,” it may be better off going back to the old ending.

Below, CarterMatt has the official Yellowstone season 2 episode 2 synopsis with more news as to what’s coming up next time:

Kayce and Rip come to blows. Beth starts buying up land to protect the ranch. Monica begins a new chapter at the university.

Monica’s new chapter is one that was foretold in the premiere with her doing what she can to secure her new position. One of her goals seems to be doing whatever she can to distance herself from the Dutton family, including going by a different last name and telling the story of many Native Americans. The troubling thing for her is that it’s probably going to be so much harder for her to get away from some of this family drama than she even imagines. Kayce still has a vested interest in her life and because Montana’s a smaller community in general, there is no crowded place where she can disappear. The best thing that she can do is try and settle into a new job and at the moment, that seems to be what she’s happy to do.
