Suits season 9 promo: The countdown to Donna, Harvey, & more

In our mind, there are three different stories that are worth getting super-psyched about at this point in the anticipation process — one that USA is egging on further in their new countdown promo (see the bottom of this article).
1. Getting to see Donna and Harvey together – Is the relationship “worth the wait”? The promo is intent on having you think so, and we like to think that it certainly is. It’s a coupling that has been years in the making and now that it’s happening, the larger question then becomes precisely where the two go from here. Can they make their relationship work both on the job and then also away from it? We’re confident that they can, but it may be a little bit easier in theory than in actual practice.
2. What does the firm’s future look like? Remember that at the end of season 7, we saw Robert Zane opt to take the fall in order to ensure that everyone else in the firm could move forward. He basically submitted himself in the role of a sacrificial lamb. It was a bold move for him to make, and it does leave the entire firm a little bit unsettled since he is the person responsible for getting everyone out of a massive mess in the first place. Are we now going to bear witness to Harvey and Louis picking up the slack? They may have to, since there may not be otherwise all that much of a choice if the firm wants to keep going. Sure, we’re aware that Alex and Samantha are now name partners, but comparing the two of them to Robert Zane, a kingpin within the legal world? That just feels like an insult, even if we like Dule Hill and Katherine Heigl’s characters very much.
3. The return of Patrick J. Adams as Mike Ross – It may not be happening right away, but we don’t think that it really needs to happen right away in order to start getting some people out there psyched (to reference another show on USA). You’ll see the return of Mike at around the midway point of the season, and there is a pretty good chance that he is going to be turning up again when we get around to the series finale. That isn’t 100% confirmed as of yet, but it wouldn’t be Suits without a final bow from the man who helped to start it all!
