Descendants 3 trailer: A battle against Hades, pirates, & more

Descendants 3

Come Friday, August 2 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, the Disney Channel movie event of the summer is going to be here: Descendants 3. This has become an institution for the network over the years, and it’s one that we certainly think will remain popular for its latest installment. Will it be what it once was? We’re not so sure on that, but that’s mostly because it’s hard to keep sequel momentum going!

With all of that said, the new trailer (introduced by Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce and Booboo Stewart) certainly sets the stage for an epic event that includes many familiar villains — and also some new faces, as well. Some of the characters lost their powers, we have pirates, and we also have seemingly Mal being forced to become something she’s not.

For a few more details about what to expect, just take a look at the synopsis below:

Descendants 3 unfolds on “VK Day” as fair-minded Villain Kids Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay cross the barrier and return to their birthplace, the Isle of the Lost, to bring four deserving VKs to the coveted Auradon Prep in a land where they have a chance at success, happiness and fulfillment.

But it’s Mal who knows she must resolve to permanently close the barrier to the Isle of the Lost, fearing that nemeses Uma and Hades will wreak vengeance on her new home, the idyllic kingdom now ruled by her beloved King Ben. Despite her decision, an unfathomable dark force still threatens the people of Auradon, and Mal and her friends face their biggest challenge yet.

Sound epic? Well, there’s going to be a lot of theatrical action, romance, and a whole lot more crammed in here — plus also singing. This is a way to both celebrate Disney’s legacy while also creating something that feels new. A big part of why this trilogy has worked is because it hasn’t fully relied on familiar characters; yet, it’s established newcomers amidst established mythology. It’s created a multi-generational appeal because of that where parents can watch with their kids and follow along with the story. That’s not something that every Disney Channel project out there has, and this one’s figured out a way to really stabilize itself and find more momentum one year after the next.

We’re not going to speak much on the long-term future of Descendants within this piece, largely because the product’s better one movie at a time. We’ll see what happens a little bit later in the year — for now, you just have to hope that it lives up to expectations, as viewers have been waiting a long time in order to check it out.
