We’re not sure that you really needed another reason to be excited for Elementary season 7, but we’ve got one for you anyway. The upcoming seventh episode is going to feature a guest appearance via a familiar face!
Per a CBS press release, “From Russia with Drugs” (not exactly the same as “From Russia with Love”) is going to feature an appearance by Emily Swallow, who you probably best know for being Amara a.k.a. The Darkness on Supernatural — one of the most notable season-long characters we’ve seen on that show. She also had a notable role on The Mentalist as Kim Fischer in the post-Red John era of that show. (Remember how great of a mystery the Red John era was?)
So who is she playing on the Jonny Lee Miller – Lucy Liu mystery series? The network isn’t releasing too many details on the character right now, other than that her name is Bree Novacek. They are being a little more liberal when it comes to talking about the story as a whole:
“From Russia with Drugs” – Holmes and Watson investigate the murder of a criminal who made his living by stealing from other criminals. Also, when Captain Gregson resumes leadership of the precinct, he suspects his interim replacement, Captain Dwyer, is responsible for one of his best detective’s suspicious departure, on ELEMENTARY, Thursday, July 4 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

For Elementary fans, there’s going to be a lot of joy that comes via getting a chance to see Captain Gregson return to his old post — it’s also just a chance for us to breathe a sigh of relief. We never wanted to see the guy die and we’re sure that everyone out there would agree! We didn’t go through all of the waiting for the final season just to see the man perish at the start of it. He’s still around but, odds are, there are still some loose ends that need to be tied up … and Captain Dwyer could end up being a part of it. This episode feels somewhat like a hybrid — you’re going to have some of that classic Elementary investigation that you know and love so much mixed with something larger — Gregson’s storyline could end up lasting all the way to the end of the season, at least if the current momentum ends up being maintained.
