Elementary season 7 episode 5 preview: Odin Reichenbach’s arrival

Elementary

Be prepared for Elementary season 7 episode 5, especially if you’re someone who’s been wondering when this season would REALLY get going. For months on end now, you may have heard that James Frain was going to be playing the Big Bad, a tech guru by the name of Odin Reichenbach. (Sidebar: There is no more perfect villain name out there than Odin Reichenbach. It just suits villain).

What makes this guy so interesting? Well, a part of it has to do with his intellect and his power — he’s arguably got more than we’ve ever seen before from another adversary. There’s another part of him that is so intriguing in that superficially, he’s going to come across as benevolent. He initially goes to Sherlock and Joan for help — maybe he genuinely wants it, or maybe he is seeing this mostly as a means to get more of what he really wants — which is being able to throw the two of them off the scent from what he’s really doing. We like to think in our head that he had something to do with Gregson’s attempted murder just because that makes the most sense. We don’t have to put on a fancy detective cap to start thinking that way! The problem is that there’s not really any tangible evidence connecting him to anything — at least based on where we are right now. There’s also no real motive.

Below, CarterMatt has the official Elementary season 7 episode 5 synopsis with more insight:

“Into the Woods” – Tech billionaire Odin Reichenbach (James Frain) hires Holmes and Watson to investigate a personal threat he suspects originated from within his own company. Also, Holmes and Watson search for a motive behind three seemingly unconnected murders, on ELEMENTARY, Thursday, June 20 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The main reason to be excited

It all comes back to what we’ve said about James Frain in the past. This is a man who excels at playing these sort of creepy characters with mysterious intentions. Basically, he is the perfect person to be a Big Bad on this show. Because Jonny Lee Miller is already so great at playing characters who can dive into darkness, you almost have to find someone who can up the ante and that’s what Frain provides. He was exceptional over on True Blood and, more recently, he proved himself to be a wonderful Theo Galavan and eventually Azrael over on Gotham.
