Before Suits season 9, and the series as a whole comes to a close, you are going to get a chance to see none other than Gabriel Macht back in the director’s chair one more time.
In a new post on Instagram, Gabriel confirms that he is directing the upcoming third episode of the final season and that he’s already done plenty of work on it, as well. (Gabriel’s co-star Sarah Rafferty took the photo.) While this is a challenge he’s taken on with the show before, it’s always so exciting to us to see actors getting a chance to collaborate through other facets of the creative process. They are such a central component, especially for long-running series, of making them work — a great cast helps to ensure that viewers stick around! Directing also gives cast members a chance to try out some new pursuits that they can use moving forward after the show concludes.
For Gabriel as an actor, we certainly know that the upcoming episodes are going to be very eventful for him. First and foremost, there is whatever is next with his relationship with Donna, which really ignited in a whole new direction at the end of season 8. We know that a whole lot of people have been curious to see exactly what the two of them as a couple would look like, and now the show is finally going to explore that to some degree. Of course, we say that provided that Aaron Korsh and the writers don’t do anything to send the Suits fandom into waves of sadness and fury.
Meanwhile, it’s fair to say that in the aftermath of Robert Zane’s departure, there’s going to be some other massive calamity at the firm that causes all of them to worry about their future. If that didn’t happen, we would suddenly worry that Suits wasn’t the same show anymore. It’s just a part of the fabric of it at this point.
We know that during the development process for season 9, Suits was going to be even more collaborative — at least in terms of former cast member Patrick J. Adams stopping by as a director. Originally, he was going to helm one of the last episodes of the series, but that changed due to his new commitments on a National Geographic show. He is still going to return to the role of Mike Ross for at least one upcoming episode, and we’re still crossing our fingers for some sort of series finale appearance.
